Black Lightning is one of the best shows of the winter pilot season — and it looks like it's here to stay.
The CW's superhero drama premiered as the network's highest-rating series of last week with 2.31 million viewers. The show competes with the immensely popular This Is Us for the 9 P.M. slot, which consistently wins Tuesday night. The NBC tearjerker garnered 9.329 million total viewers, beating Ellen Degeneres' Ellen’s Game of Games.
But for a CW show, the numbers for Black Lightning have stayed strong through its second week, retaining most of the viewers from its popular lead-in, The Flash. The show is executive produced by Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter, also behind other CW hits — Riverdale, and the DC Comic's Supergirl, Arrow and The Flash. While the show diverges from the traditional CW superhero show, producers Salim Akil and Mara Brock Akil are vocal about the network's continuous support.
